Wanganui Extravaganza
A great weekend was had by the Red Hot Lava's who took away 2nd prize in the wearable art section of the fashion parade. They feel the antics of their "Taniwha" won the hearts of the judges....Great work Ynys!
The gals all looked stunning in their matching costumes, which proved to be a real show stealer!
Queen Grenouille displays her froggie crown...surely a creation fit for a Queen!

Red Hot Lava's Christmas Fling
On July 26th, a group of 13 visions clad in red and purple descended on the home of Lady Dougalberry for a festive repast. As we entered, we were presented with a delicious glass of hot mulled wine, which soon had us warm and chatty!
Lady Dougalberry had prepared the most beautiful traditional Christmas dinner, and we agreed it was so nice to sit down to a homemade meal we hadn't prepared ourselves. Lady Dutchie's miniature Christmas puddings tempted the nibblers and the Christmas decorations and music added to the festivities.
The group used this occasion to share the stories of how they got involved in the Red Hat Society, and also shared how they came by their Regal names. Some rather interesting and innovative thinking there.
The conference was discussed and there was much laughter involved while considering what 'item' they would become involved in. Belly dancing seemed to be a popular thought. We exchanged a wide assortment of gifts, admired Lady Dougalberry's two beautifully crafted camels, then posed for our group shot.
As an out of town visitor there, I was made to feel very welcome and would have loved to spend more time with this happy group.
Thank you everyone for a nice fun, relaxing afternoon.
Those attending in the group photo -

Absent from photo Lady Stitchberry (Carol Gillice) who had to leave the party early.

Red Hot Lava's - May outing
For our May Meeting we had planned to go 10 Pin Bowling. We met at the Alley at 10.30 as agreed, and found the signs all said 'Open 7 days from 10 am', but the doors were all firmly closed....
Guess I should have phoned first to advise them we were coming.
So we agreed to have morning tea out instead.
It was decided to go to Peppers cafe, Sala St where the food was excellent. As there was only a small group of us we each gave a wee history of ourselves, and after much laughter we all agreed we had got to know each other much better.
Don't you just love the purple & red footwear too!
Those attending -
Ann Aigner - Lady Velvet
Rosemarie Lyons - Lady Godiva
Alison McLean - Baroness Bibi
Pat Price - Baroness de Brassiere
Maria Quigg - Lady Dutchie
Barbara Sims - Lady Troutbeck

Red Hot Lavas Create Jewellery
With our Annual Conference being held in October, it was decided we may need to have more fancy bling.........so why not make our own
So for our April meeting 10 ladies attended a craft session at Bead Me Up.
Owner Roz and her staff were happy to help us in our selection of items to make, and beads required to make these items.
Lady Godiva must have felt very special on the day, as she came dressed as a sparkly purple fairy.
After many spilt beads, and much patience, everyone was eventually able to pose for a group photo wearing her new item of bling. Amazing at the different end results, but ALL stunning works of art.
We then paraded through town to have a most enjoyable lunch at Capers, drawing many looks and smiles from lunchtime shoppers.
After lunch a few of us spared a few moments to see a Dolls Exhibition at RAVE, which was part of Dyslexia Awareness week.

Pukehina Potaes Mothers Day Outing
When 22 Red Hatters hit a small town like Te Puke...they're sure to be noticed! This was the case on Monday the 14th May when the Pukehina Potaes gathered for a surprise Mother's Day get-together. We hear that several townsfolk were heard to ask, "Who were they?" after our departure!
Berwyn at Mitre 10 had invited the intrepid gals, as she had heard all about our Queen...Baroness Bligh's escapades. Being both a Pink Hatter and a 'working girl' (in the conventional sense), Berwyn felt left out not being able to attend events, so suggested Lynn bring the gals to her.
What a wonderful surprise she had in store. We were all presented with a beautiful potted plant...coloured pink and purple of course...wrapped in red paper and topped off with ribbon and bow. She then announced that all Red Hatters would get 15% off anything they cared to purchase from the shop.
After perusing the Mitre 10 array of goodies, the gals had a wander around town before descending on "The World of Taste Deli and Cafe" for a lovely lunch. Our clever keeper of the Purse...Wendy Scott had placed a red ribbon under one of the chairs befor the gals got there. Yours truly was delighted to find it under her chair and was presented with a sumptuous purple boa feather. What a thrill!
Thanks Lady Graceland and thank you also for sharing your glamorous leg with us...even if your dear husband did think it looked like a crayfish!
The Potaes were happy to meet 3 new 'virgin' Red Hatters on their first outing. Marie Phillips, Gwen Bracks and Leslie Edwards were welcomed with open arms into the flock. I am sure they will prove to be great assets to our adventurous little group of beach bunnies.
Once again...a wonderful outing with fun people and we thank all those who contributed.

Pukehina Potaes Play Golf
Monday April the 16th saw an eclectic collection of 18 joyful Red Hatters descend on the Te Puke Gold Club. A putting challenge was the order of the day, and we were faced with 10 holes...each sporting festive purple balloons attached to their pins.
Two teams put their skills to work, and it soon became obvious that some gals had never held a golf club in their lives. However the enthusiasm they approached the game with made up for any lack of expertise, and by the end of the session they proved to be just as skilled as the more experienced golfers.
A total of four gals mananged a hole in one...Our trusty Queen, Lyn Barbour, Barbara (Lady Barberry), Barb Sundgren (Lady Leadfoot) and Sandy Wong (Lady Wong), and they received a sumpuous assortment of Easter Eggs for their efforts.
A red ribbon had also been placed behind one of the chairs, and the unsuspecting recipient became the grateful receiver of a stunning red boa.
A delicious lunch and a few wines were greatly appreciated after all the activity, and after a good old chinwag, the gals gradually dispersed to their respective homes. Thanks to all those who made this outing such a pleasure.
